McARTHUR — A dedication ceremony was held Saturday evening at the Vinton County Courthouse for a plaque honoring the memory of McArthur firefighter Ryan Seitz, who was killed in the line of duty one year ago.

Seitz was killed after a pressurized tank on the McArthur Fire Department’s humvee unit exploded while the unit was fighting a brush fire in Londonderry on Sept. 24, 2010. Parts from that tank struck Seitz, killing him instantly. Seitz was the first McArthur firefighter killed in the line of duty.

In memory of the anniversary of Seitz’s death, a memorial 5K run/walk was held earlier on Saturday. Also, readers shared their memories of Seitz. Videos of the dedication ceremony can be found here.
