Letter: October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

September 29, 2011

Shepherd’s House is Vinton County’s local emergency domestic violence shelter/domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy center. We offer a wide range of services including assistance in filing protection orders, legal referrals, safety planning, emergency shelter, 911 cell phones, peer support, community referrals, victim and court advocacy, clothing and personal care items for victims and their family, a 24-hour crisis line and we assist Southeast Ohio Legal Services and a local attorney with a pro-se divorce clinic offered four times a year.

Shepherd’s House is kicking off October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month by supporting the National Purple Ribbon Campaign. Baskets of purple ribbons will be displayed in various business locations throughout Vinton County.  We ask everyone to please pick one up and wear it in support of victims and survivors during October. There will also be free 2012 calendars to show appreciation to our community for its continued support.

If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence and would like more information or need assistance, please call us at 740-596-9271 or toll free at 1-866-596-9271. And help us stop the silence.

Thank you very much.
