TracK: Vinton County qualifies for finals in several events at TVC meet

ATHENS — The Tri-Valley Conference track meet started Monday at Athens High School, and the second day is Thursday at Nelsonville-York High School.

Monday’s meet was mostly semifinals to see who would advance to Thursday’s meet, but finals were held in girls discuss, girls high jump, boys pole vault, boys shot put, boys long jump, girls 4×800-meter relay,  and boys 4×800-meter relay.

After Monday’s meet, the Vinton County High School girls team is currently tied for third with Alexander with 14 points, and the Vinton County High School boys team is currently in fifth with 13 points.

Caitlyn Owings led scoring for the girls’ team with 10 points for her first-place finish in the high jump. The girls 4×800-meter relay team — Karen Fite, Cassie Perkins, Shawna Stewart and Mya Faris — scored four points for it’s fifth-place finish.

“We’re looking forward to Thursday night,” Coach Josh Kirkpatrick said.

Those advancing to finals are:

  • Cassie McFadden,100-meter dash
  • The girls 4×200-meter relay team — Heather Remy, Kendall Sweany, Jennifer Case and Cassie McFadden
  • The girls 4×100-meter relay team — Heather Remy, Caitlyn Owings, Lauren Mitchell and Kendall Sweany
  • Cassie Perkins and Jennifer Case, 400-meter dash
  • Lauren Mitchell, 300-meter hurdles
  • The girls 4×400-meter relay team– Karen Fite, Mya Faris, Shawna Stewart and Josie Ward

On the boys’ team, Adam Parkison scored five points with his fourth-place finish in the pole vault. Alex Parkison scored three points with his sixth-place finish in the pole vault. The Boys 4×800-meter relay team — Jacob McManis, Brett Radabaugh, Chad Campbell and Wakiza Anderson– scored four points with its fourth-place finish.

“We had a lot of good performances tonight and look forward to some more on Thursday,” Coach Jon Lindner said. Lindner also noted that several athletes achieved personal records in their events.

  • Dylan Crisp, 400-meter dash
  • Curtis Lindner and Justin Hawk, 300-meter hurdles
  • Justin Hawk, 200-meter dash
  • The boys 4×400-meter relay team — Jacob McManis, Tyler Bartoe, Chad Campbell and Dylan Crisp
