Several events planned at Vinton County Airport
The Vinton County Airport will host several events this summer and fall at the airport, located off Route 93 north of McArthur.
The first event of the season will be the SOJO Bike Rodeo, which will be held for the first time on June 10. The motorcycle-themed event will include a 50/50 raffle drawing, slow ride, keg roll, ball and cone course, and a surprise event. Plaques will be awarded for Best of Show in all four events. There also will be music, airplane rides, food and more. Primitive-style overnight campsites are available. The event starts at 11 a.m., and music begins at 1 p.m. The parking fee is $10 per bike or vehicle.
The next event is the fish fry and bean dinner, to be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 15. Fish sandwiches or all-you-can-eat beans and cornbread will be available for $5. Airplane rides will be offered for $30, and keepsake photos will be available.
The annual Ridge Top Music Festival and Big Boy Toy Day will be held on Aug. 19. Food will be served starting at 11 a.m., and the music starts at 1 p.m. Registatration for the old car show is required by 12:30 p.m., and judging will begin at 2:30 p.m. The event will also include go kart races, a mini-tractor pull and airplane rides for $30.
The annual Vinton County Air Show and Chicken Barbecue will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 16. The event features aerobatics, skydivers and airplane rides for $30. Admission is free, but parking donations are accepted.
The final event of the season will be the Leaf Peep/Young Eagles from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 21. The free event includes go kart races, mini-tractor pull, free airplane rides for children ages 6 to 17 and food.
