Driver injured in semi truck, SUV accident on Route 50

A driver was transported to the hospital with injuries Monday after an accident between a semi truck and SUV closed Route 50 East in both directions near Route 356 .

According to an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper, Coshel Caudill, 56, of McArthur was driving a tractor trailer from Emmert Trucking in Hamden. He was traveling westbound on Route 50 when his trailer swung left of center and was struck by a black Chevy Traverse driven by Gerry Ryan, 71, also of McArthur. Ryan was entrapped in the vehicle until emergency crews arrived and cut her out.

Ryan received burns  and bruising to her arms and legs from the airbag deploying, and was transported by Vinton County EMS to O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens.

Caudill did not sustain any injuries in the accident.

Responding at the scene were the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Vinton County Sheriff, Vinton County EMS, McArthur Fire Department, Zaleski Fire Department and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The road was closed for several hours while crews cleaned up the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
